I watched at him from the other side of the table, hoping he would take notice of the flirtatious eyes I had been practicing.

Not so much.

The man I was completely enamoured with, folded beautifully printed rice paper purposefully with his hands. I couldn’t fault him for his focus. One of the main reasons I fell so deeply for Bruce.

I stared, albeit too hard, and my impatience got the better of me. These Wednesday night hobby classes were about to end, I needed to get his attention tonight. Utilizing the first parts of the ‘crane’ fold, I made a paper airplane. After writing on the inner folds of the papered flight simulator, I expertly aimed in Bruce’s direction.

My aim was off.

The plane landed where I didn’t want it to go, to a neighbouring seat where the prick Jerald sat. He picked it up and looked around the room. My whole self folded under the realization that he may think it was for him! I shuddered with my back turned and could feel eyes burrowing into the back of my skull. My thoughts were screaming, telling me not to turn around.

I couldn’t help myself.

I turned, squeezing my eyes tight, releasing my lids after I took a slow, calming breath in. Wishing I had only made an excuse to leave the room instead. Jared was staring at me with a vast cruel grin, calculating something awful, I could feel it. I cringed, regretting my plane of proposal.

The message on it was NOT subtle.
